A smaller kind of book club.
mutuals is a few neighbours who read the way you do, meeting close to home. This is the story of why it exists.
It started with a book I wanted to talk about.
I moved to Vancouver in 2022 and went looking for a book club. What I pictured was small and close by: a handful of people who loved the same kind of book, a café we could all get to, an easy standing hour on the calendar.
That version turned out to be hard to find. So I decided to build it, and to make finding it the easy part for everyone who comes after me. A short survey, a little patience, and then a few neighbours who read like you do.
Small, local, and yours.
- 01 Reading is better shared
A novel you finish alone is only half-finished. The conversation afterward is the other half, so we build everything around it.
- 02 Small circles go deep
Four to eight readers means everyone gets to speak, and everyone gets heard. That is the whole point.
- 03 Close to home keeps it going
When your circle is a short walk away, showing up stays easy. The best book club is the one you can reach on a Sunday morning.
Why mutuals?
The name borrows from the internet: familiar people, shared interests, and connections waiting to happen. We liked the idea of taking that one step further: a reason to sit at the same table.
That’s what a good book club really is. People telling each other what moved them.
A note from Patrick.
mutuals is the book club I wished I could have joined the week I arrived. Small enough to feel like friends, and close enough to make showing up easy.
It stays quiet on purpose. A short survey, no public profile, and an introduction to nearby readers. We wait until we find readers who suit you, and we charge $15 when your group is ready.
I hope you find your book club here. I made this so you could.
